Coming from another EU country: which document is mine?
Staying beyond three months means registering as a resident, and the green certificate you receive carries your NIE. If you only need a number for a purchase or a short contract, the stand-alone NIE is enough.
Can I work remotely for a company abroad as an EU citizen?
Yes, free movement covers it. When you register you show how you support yourself, and for remote workers that point deserves care: we look at your contract or activity with you and choose the evidence that fits.
Where do EU citizens go in Valencia?
The registration certificate and the NIE are handled at the Oficina de Trámites de Comunitarios y Certificados, Calle de Bailén 9. Your appointment confirmation states the office, which can also be a comisaría nearby.
What do I bring to the appointment?
For registration, the EX-18; for a bare number, the EX-15. Add your passport or ID card and a photocopy, the fee slip once paid and something that proves your situation. We send you a checklist for your own case.
Do I need to be on the padrón first?
It is not always required, but it is often useful and some desks ask for it. Registering early on the padrón rarely does any harm.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
No, though it helps at the desk: with your documents in order you will manage. We explain everything in English beforehand so nothing catches you off guard.
And my husband or wife from outside the EU?
They ask for a relatives' residence card, with form EX-19. It lets them live and work here.
Can I get my number before I arrive?
Yes, through a Spanish consulate in the country where you live. You will still register for the green certificate once you settle in Valencia.
Does the green certificate replace my passport?
No. It has no photo, so it is always shown together with your passport or national ID card.
Nothing matches that yet. Try another word, or ask us directly.
