The outline
- Apply for the visa at the Spanish consulate for where you live, before travelling

- Hold private health insurance valid in Spain
- Provide the background checks and certificates the consulate asks for
- Once here, register on the padrón and apply for your TIE
Points to weigh
This permit does not allow work in Spain, employed or self-employed. If you plan to work remotely for clients abroad, the digital nomad visa may fit you better, so compare the two before you choose.
Renewals are handled by the Oficina de Extranjería, so keep your insurance and your means in order from the very first year.
Where we help out
We prepare the Valencia steps: the cita previa for fingerprints, the EX-17, the fee and the checklist, and the padrón. For the visa file itself, our relocation partner offers help from the first document to the last.
Here in Valencia
In Valencia, non-lucrative residence appears among the authorisations of Sede 1 of the Oficina de Extranjería, Calle Diputada Clara Campoamor 23, and the card that follows is issued at the Comisaría de Patraix. Whether you settle in Campanar, in Alboraya or along the coast towards Sagunto, the padrón at your new address comes first.
Quick questions
Is this the same as the golden visa?
They were never alike: the golden visa hinged on an investment and has been closed since 2025, whereas this route rests on your own means.
Can my children go to school in Valencia?
Yes. Schools usually ask for proof of address, and the padrón certificate is the usual one.
Who handles the renewal?
Renewals go to the Oficina de Extranjería. The Delegación del Gobierno lists non-lucrative residence among the procedures of its Sede 1 in Valencia.
