Before you travel
- An admission letter from a recognised school or university
- Proof of means for your stay, and full health insurance
- The student visa application at the Spanish consulate for where you live
- Copies of everything, because you will need them again in Valencia
Once you are here
Read the annotations on your visa: if your stay calls for a card, book the huellas appointment for the TIE in your first weeks. Register on the padrón with the address of your flat or your residence hall, since it tends to come up in the steps that follow.
Plans change: a longer course, an internship or a switch to another permit each have their own procedure, handled by the Oficina de Extranjería.
How we help
We prepare your EX-17 and the fee, look for the fingerprint slot and send you a checklist for the day, in plain English and around your timetable.
Here in Valencia
Studies are among the procedures the Delegación del Gobierno lists for the Oficina de Extranjería at Calle Joaquín Ballester 39, while cards are issued at the Comisaría de Patraix. If you live in Benimaclet you will cross the city to reach Patraix, so choose a slot that steers clear of an exam or a lab session.
Quick questions
Is a part-time job allowed while I study?
Within limits: student permits allow some work under conditions set by the rules in force. Check the current terms before you accept a job.
I am an EU student. Is this page for me?
No. EU students register for the green certificate once they stay beyond three months; our page on the EU registration certificate explains it.
Can my partner or children join me?
Sometimes: family members can join a student under conditions of their own. Ask early, because their applications take time.
