Huellas TIE Valencia, step by step
- Book a cita previa for the toma de huellas, the fingerprint appointment, soon after you arrive
- Prepare the EX-17, and settle the card fee with a 790-012 slip
- Bring your passport with the visa or your authorisation, a recent photo and your padrón if requested
- Give your fingerprints and keep the receipt you are handed
- Go back when the card is ready and collect it in person
When the card needs replacing
The card is renewed or replaced when your authorisation is renewed, when your details change or when the card is lost. Each of those starts from a different request, so tell us what changed and we will point you to the right one.
What we put together
The EX-17, the fee slip and a list of documents tailored to your permit, plus the search for the fingerprint appointment. You walk into the office with a file that matches what the desk expects to see.
Here in Valencia
In Valencia, TIE cards are issued at the Secretaría General of the Comisaría de Patraix, Calle Dels Gremis 6, listed on policia.es for cards under the general regime and for family members of EU citizens. It is a trip across town from the seafront neighbourhoods, so plan the journey if you live in El Cabanyal or Alboraya. Further out, the comisarías across the province in Alzira, Gandia, Ontinyent and Sagunt list TIE issuance as well.
Quick questions
Can I travel before my TIE is ready?
It depends on your visa and your situation. When a card has expired or is being renewed, the autorización de regreso is the document that covers a trip abroad and back.
Do British residents get a TIE?
Yes. British citizens who were resident before the end of the Brexit transition hold a TIE under the Withdrawal Agreement; newcomers apply for one under their own permit.
Is the TIE the same as the NIE?
One lives inside the other. Your NIE is printed on the TIE, next to your photo and the kind of permit you hold.
