Who counts as family here
- A spouse, or a registered partner
- Sons and daughters under 21, or older ones still supported by the couple
- Parents of either partner, when the couple supports them
- Other relatives in certain situations, such as dependants who shared the household
What the file looks like
The EU citizen is registered, or registers at the same time, and holds the green certificate. The file then shows the family link through certificates that may need legalisation and a sworn translation, together with the EU citizen's registration and situation, your passport, your photos and the paid fee.
Where we come in
We check that your documents prove the link the way the office expects, prepare the EX-19 and the fee and look for your appointment. Translations and legalisations take time, so we start that list on day one.
Here in Valencia
The Delegación del Gobierno includes this relatives' card in the list of procedures of Sede 1 of the Oficina de Extranjería in Valencia, and policia.es lists the Comisaría de Patraix for issuing cards to family members of EU citizens. Two addresses, one file: we keep track of which step happens where.
Quick questions
Can I take a job with this card?
Yes. It lets you live and work in Spain, employed or self-employed, for as long as you remain a family member under the rules.
My partner is British. Does this apply to us?
Since Brexit, British citizens are not EU citizens, so a UK partner does not open this route. Withdrawal Agreement residents and their families have rules of their own.
What does the card look like?
It is a card in the same format as the TIE, issued after fingerprinting, and it states that you are the family member of an EU citizen.
